I injured my dominant hand in the line duty as a law enforcement officer. I had a broken and dislocated thumb. After nearly six months, the injury was not healing and was still very swollen and painful. The only orthopedic surgeon on the list of doctors my employer provided was not responding to my c oncerns and refused to order an MRI. I contacted Susan Sadow who understood my injury, and the struggles I was having getting proper treatment. She got the workers compensation insurance company to approve changing my doctor to a hand specialist, who ordered an MRI. I was correct that my injury was not healing. It required reconstructive surgery. The surgery was successfully performed and I went through many months of rehabilitation and occupational therapy afterward. For more than fourteen months I was out of work losing wages from overtime and missed extra-duty employment. The settlement Susan negotiated on my behalf helped with the lost income and allowed me to train for a new career. Susan was instrumental in getting me the treatment I needed and the financial compensation to start over professionally. I wish I had contacted her sooner.
