My husband and I chose Ms. Douglas based in her online reviews as we had little else to help us choose an attorney. Perhaps we are alone in our experience, but things did NOT go smoothly from the start. The bankruptcy process and options are very confusing. We sought out an attorney to help clari fy the process and whether or not it was our best option. After 3 appointments with Ms. Douglas (and $680 later) we are now even more confused. We spent hours upon hours gathering the requested paperwork...being told we needed to bring it to the next meeting, only to find out that they didn't even ask for it. At our last meeting Ms. Douglas was clearly not at 100% getting simple facts and figures wrong, at which point she apologized multiple times stating that she "had a very busy day." While I do sympathize, if I were the last appointment at my doctor's office does he have the right to provide a lower quality of service because he is tired? Other reviews praise Ms. Douglas for her kind demeanor and hard work to make it an easy and painless process. Unfortunately our experience was vastly different. We were made to feel like a burden for as asking questions ( Ms. Douglas's assistant complained to my husband that she had spent 20 minutes on the phone with me explaining things...this was because she had emailed me a budget packet that we had already filled out a few days earlier rather than the checklist she was supposed to mail); and things that could have been covered at the start if they had been addressed drug on into multiple appointments. I learned more from online searches and blogs and those were free. I don't at all advise going into bankruptcy without a lawyer, but I would beg you to go beyond online reviews when you make your selection. Had we done more research we wouldn't be out $680 (which is a lot to lose when you are considering bankruptcy) and have to start all over. Ms. Douglas and her assistant lack professionalism and the integrity to admit when they make a mistake. I gave 2 stars rather than just one because I don't believe that the issues that we experienced were intentional however there was nothing done or even attempted on Ms. Douglas's part to make things right. She sent my husband an email trying to point out were we had "misunderstood" but never took any blame or offered any type of apology.

Portia out did my expectations thru the whole process...She was kind, compassionate, thoroughly Professional thru the entire process....Kudos to one of her Staff as well.... Velda! Thank you Portia....If you need an attorney for bankruptcy, you should choose Ms. Douglas !

Portia was extremely knowledgeable, honest and helpful. She gave us great advise and direction. She took her time to understand our situation and provide sound advise on what direction we should go which was not to file bankruptcy at this time. She really is a different type of attorney. You coul d tell she really cared about what we were going through and wanted to help. I would highly recommend her firm.

I have hired and referred DeAnn Farthing on multiple occasions. In all cases she has never ceased to amaze me. Not your typical attorney. She will always greet you with a genuine smile and takes every case very seriously. She comes across as very sweet and innocent but when needed this attorney is tough as nails. As a business owner for over 30 years I've had to deal with many attorneys. Some good some not so good. DeAnn comes then head and shoulders above the rest. Fair honest straightforward, words you rarely associate with the legal world. I can't say enough about this lady she is very impressive.

I referred DeAnn to my daughter who was in college and searching for housing. She was able to walk her through the perils of being a renter, reading and comparing leases. And the obligations of life and signing on the line. She gave her sound advice and laid the foundation to use her services again. DeAnn bridge the gap and my daughter walked away with a wealth of knowledge. I would recommend DeAnn to any parent and 20 somethings to get all those important papers in order before they are off to college and life; power of attorney and for medical treatment.

My father’s investment counselor recommended DeAnn Farthing to help me administer my father’s estate. It was especially challenging for me since I live in Illinois, and he lived in Indiana. DeAnn and I were able to complete all tasks via email, phone calls, and mail. She responded immediately to a ny correspondence. It was wonderful to have an attorney who let me do as much as I wanted on the administrative side, but was there for all my legal needs. I found DeAnn through my Father's CPA firm. She shared space with the firm. Upon leaving a voice message, she returned my call immediately. She offered basic advice that I didn't expect and was available for my sister who also was co-executor. She met with us almost immediately. She had a checkl ist of everything we could do on our own to save us fees from her practice. Her initial appointment was a free consultation. Our Father had everything completely ready and organized for us to delve into. There are said waiting periods that are state laws, but she helped us and walked us through every hoop and that we encountered. She was also readily available with answers either by email or phone. Never did we have to wait. We encounter a huge hiccup that we couldn't get through; she immediately jumped on the credit unions to avoid year end penalties. Everything we could do on our own; she assisted in our journey and kept all siblings up to date on everything. Two brothers living out of state never questioned her or us. Smooth sailing with DeAnn. She offered personal contact with each of us, and made sure both my sister and I were on the same page at all times. Again, DeAnn was professional, efficient, and personable. I would recommend her for any legal situations you find yourself faced with. She has a Greenwood office and an office within walking distance to Castletown Mall in Indianapolis.
