He did a great job! Fair price! Timely! I had another friend going thru similar circumstances. Mr. Burton provided services in less than 1/2 the time and for 1/2 the expense. He listens to your dilemma. One must realize , there is a lot attorneys cannot renegotiate due to the laws. But there are a fe w alternatives, and Mr. Burton researched my options with his resources and colleagues and provided an equitable resolution. You do have to disclose all that both parties have on the table to explore the options. My agreed order was primarily changes in child support and visitations. That was finalized by the court. The ex was behind in other matters and did not want to go to court and Mr. Burton researched a settlement out of court for that matter. His assistant is very helpful and patient. If you are in a hurry just let them know and keep pushing. they will work with you. Do your own research, it helps understand the limits attorneys have. You need to provide as much help as you can since all circumstances are different. I will use him again if needed.

I have had Kay as my family law attorney since 2009 and she has been the most amazing advocate and supporter. As a father I was under the mistaken belief that my rights as a father were subservient to my ex-wife's rights as a mother. Kay completely transformed my opinion with exceptional legal knowl edge and explanations. Whether in emails, phone calls, or in-person meetings, she is always providing me with the best legal knowledge. Two recent cases come to mind. My divorce decree (which I hadn't had a lawyer review!) gave me less-than what I was legally entitled under Texas Law. Kay helped me pursue a modification to grant me Expanded Standard Possession. Based on being a great father she said I would have absolutely no difficulties winning this. She attempted to negotiate directly with my ex-wife's attorney, but unfortunately my ex-wife's attorney was more interested in padding the bill and delayed and delayed and wouldn't respond to emails or calls from Kay. She also attempted trickery to keep the case from moving forward. We just met roadblock after roadblock with my ex's lawyer. Finally we get a court day and her lawyer attempts to get the case dismissed on a technicality, even though Kay was certain we'd had an agreement. The judge was pissed with her attorney and denied the motion, but time had run out on our slot so he sent us to mediation. 1.5 years after it all began we got to mediation and the mediator (a former judge in the very court we'd been in earlier) told my ex-wife point-bland "If this goes to court, your husband is going to get everything he's asking for, so you'd be best advised to settle this here." Which was exactly what Kay had told me 1.5 years before (and I had told my ex 1.5 years before). If my ex's lawyer had been like Kay, it would have been resolved in 20 minutes. The second case was when my son turned 12 and decided he wanted to live with me. Again Kay gave me great advice, even way back when he asked when he was 11 and Kay said, "Nothing we can do now, wait until he's 12. Call me in a year and we can start." How awesome is that?? A shady lawyer would have found some excuse to start billing me, but Kay is not like that. Now that my son is 12 Kay's work has been stellar. I am so happy with her work and support. She is very cost conscious and always looks for ways to keep the bill to a minimum. Added to that, her billable rate is relatively low. For the quality of the service, her billable rate is an absolute steal!! She explained to me exactly how the court looks at situations like this and how they would likely rule (in our favor!) based on our circumstances. I know if the circumstances weren't in our favor she'd say, "Save your money, you can't win this one." She is an exceptional family lawyer; kind, knowledgeable and responsive. I highly recommend her.

Kate is a condescending person with zero empathy or compassion for her clients or potential clients. Unprofessional correspondence, major personality switches, overall scathing attitude. Doesn’t listen or read and accepts no accountability for her mistakes or assumptions. She’s cold and arrogant. Sh e will treat and speak to you like you’re an idiot and charge you excessively for it. I’ve never encountered a more venomous and unstable person, especially in what she claims to be a high-end, professional setting. To those seeking divorce counsel, beware! You will be traumatized all over again.

So many things wrong here. Besides the fact that her follow through is terrible (forever to return calls...over a week sometimes, etc), everything she told me would happen went the exact opposite. In 16 hours of mediation she caved to the mediator every single time. I had to call her out and say H ey! That's not what you told me, and she still sided with mediator. Never fought for me. I spent about 40k and my ex still got more time with the kids then he should have, pays less than the state guideline support, and I got less of our joint assets. She was terrible. It was as if she was intimidated or scared to disagree with the mediator. She went on vacation the week my final hearing was scheduled and her paralegal had to get all my paperwork submitted. I should have fired her and found a new attorney.

I would not recommend working with Kate. I found that she had trouble keeping the specifics of my situation straight (and things were relatively simple). She also became aggressive and condescending. I was not comfortable moving forward with her as my attorney.

Last year (late May,2014) I found myself in a major double bind. On the one hand, I was facing an unfair and inequitable dismissal from my job, a deadline imminent ; on the other I was also recovering from a traumatic experience which made it very difficult for me to be fully available mentally an d emotionally. Ms. Palmer took on the challenge, leading a team of support that could respond to the situation in a timely and efficient manner. Her long experience, creativity and integrity were all brought to bear as she designed a viable plan of action to negotiate the best possible settlement with my employer. What impressed me the most at the time were how patiently and skilfully she gathered accurate information from me at a time when my mental faculties were compromised. Empathy, care and compassion were never missing ; she was never condescending, never less than thorough, always resourceful when I was clearly not understanding a question or the importance of a detail. I was kept informed about every step of the legal process and when necessary, translated them into 'lay language for me' . Although she did not hesitate on pressing an issue when she needed to, she maintained a professional and cordial tone in her communications with the opposing party. My divorce could have been a complete catastrophe for myself, my children, and my former spouse. Through Don Royall and my former spouse's attorney, there was a four-party collaborative divorce agreement. Although both my former spouse and I had strongly diverging feelings about the nature, circumsta nces, and deeper meaning of why the marriage was end-- the collaborative process simply eliminated this as a major driver. In doing so, there were far fewer opportunities to create the sort of acrimony that would otherwise characterize the adversarial family law litigation process. Quite simply, a collaborative divorce is a better way to go. While there are many attorneys who are qualified to do a collaborative divorce, Don Royall is especially good. Mr. Calzada was available by email and I could even call his cell phone. He talked to me like a real person. He spent the time to explain my case and walked me through what was needed from me and what to expect. His offices were that of a very expensive high end attorney, but he never talked down to me.
