I married the love of my life in Russia. Before we got married, she got a tourist visa but never used it. When the war started, we came to the U.S. I asked ChatGPT (lol) and thought she could just get her green card here instead of doing the whole immigrant visa thing, so we could start our life fas ter. Then I found one of those do-it-yourself immigration websites. For $499 they said they’d do the paperwork. I thought, nice, my case is simple and lawyers are expensive. Good thing I still booked a consult with The Plaksin Law Firm. Andrey Plaksin told me right away there was a big problem that could get my wife banned forever. Misrepresentation. Basically, she came in on a tourist visa, and that visa is not for moving here. And since we were already married when she entered, filing for a green card right away would look really bad. I was glad I didn’t file yet, but I was also freaking out because I didn’t want to go back to Russia with her.
